Mike was scheduled to fight Radcliff Green but unfortunately Green pulled out at last minute. At short notice journeyman, Paul Bonson was the only opponent brave enough to take on Stafford. This was the second time in just over a month that both fighters have clashed. Mike outclassed Bonson throughout the 4 x 3 minutes rounds landing thumping right & left hands to the head and body of Bonson who clung trying to tie Mike up. Fans cheered Mike on to another point’s victory over Bonson. ..................................................................... Mike's next fight is July 19th 2008 Southport’s popular professional cruiser-weight ‘undefeated’ boxer, Mike Stafford steps back into the ring. This will be Mike’s second fight in quick succession after his impressive performance over Paul Bonson at Wigan’s Robin Park earlier this month. His large following of fans enjoyed the event which also saw many talented young prospects for the North West. Mike Stafford wins on points Mike Stafford’s professional boxing stats now stand at 4-0 after winning on points against tough fighting journeyman, Paul Bonson at Robin Park Sports Centre, Wigan, on Saturday night 7th June 2008. The contest was over 4x 3 min rounds, promoted by Wally Dixon in association with Mr. Pat Barrett ` Over 100 travelling fans made the short trip up the M57 to see the fight. Mike had to be mettle against the former Rugby League star who has been in with a who’s who of the heavier divisions. During the contest Mike had to encounter 4 low blows with the referee allowing Mike a 10 second time out to recover towards the end of round 3. Bonson made it awkward for Stafford by holding on throughout the fight whilst under pressure. This showed why the journeyman has never been KO in over 100 fights. The fight was a good learning curve for Mike, who was the clear winner by far. The opinion from travelling supporters was that Stafford fought valiantly, with a crushing defeat on his opponent. ..................................................................... The fight is scheduled for 4 x 3min rounds against tough fighting journeyman, Paul Benson who has fought over 100 times, and only been stopped 3 times Mike has promised to entertain his fans when he steps into the ring on Saturday. Mike Stafford tames the Ghanaian ‘Hungry Lion’ It was a great night out for boxing fans with an electric atmosphere and a full house at Liverpool Olympia Stadium last night (Saturday 1st December 2007). The event not only featured UK fighters but international talent as well. The exciting event was finalised with Southport’s unbeaten professional cruiserweight boxer Mike Stafford’s homecoming fight. The fight was over 4x 3 minute rounds which Mike won on points. Up to 200 Southport fans cheered Mike on as he entered the ring. Mike was in control of the fight from the opening bell and in the final round he totally dominated his Ghanaian opponent, Issah “The Hungry Lion” Hakrong to the delight of the crowd. Mike had 1 point deducted in round 3 for being over enthueastic. Following the fight Mike mixed and chatted to fans inside the stadium. Mike’s professional record now reads 3 fights 3 wins. Michael Stafford is promoted by Duva Boxing (Don King), managed by Lou Duva and trained by Gus Curren, Vero Beach (House of Champions) Florida USA. Robbie Butler and Dave Gibson from The Bridge Gym, Litherland, Liverpool are currently training Michael. |
